Camp ~Day 2

Today we drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway and came across this lovely old house. It is a local craft center. We found out later that this house was used in the movie Mandie and the Secret Tunnel. How exciting to have been here!
Fish made of soda can tops.

Pine cone cardinal. Love it.

They got some Blue Ridge Parkway National Park Junior Ranger activity books and were hard at work.

Are they cute or what?

Next stop, Doc's Gem Mine to find some diamonds.

or fool's gold

We had so much fun! We almost bought another bucket of dirt.

Grandmother searching for treasure.

Miner hard at work.

We went on to Blowing Rock, a fun shopping town and the one Jan Karon used as her example for Mitford in her series. We were told we had to go to the ice cream shop to become what the locals call a "licker" because the tourists come and lick up the ice cream. We thought about it for a few seconds and then hotfooted it over to the store.

We saw these....

And got these! Grandmother, Drew Preston and Ellie's cones, ready to lick!

We went around a loop that brought us back to the Mast General Store where we stopped and had a picnic supper.

I love these two!

Fun feet.

Drew Preston and Ellie wrote Sully and Tucker several postcards about what we were doing so they could get mail at camp.
